March 8-12

Great Things We Noticed to “Run the Race”

  • Asking purposeful questions to challenge student thinking, assess student learning, and promote meaningful discourse is being observed on a regular basis during math.  Some of the questions overheard this week were prompts such as: What is the relationship between these two fractions?  Can you explain what the problem is asking?  How do you know?
  • TK students were engaged in a Number Talk by discussing the prompts: What do you see?  What do you notice? in response to a picture of different colored M & Ms.  Students were counting, talking, and sharing with the class!
  • 5th graders were being randomly selected through the use of the PBIS Rewards app – another way to engage and motivate students.

Race Tips/Strategies

Exactly one year ago this upcoming Saturday we shifted to online learning for what would become a year we’ll always remember.  If we look back on the last year and all that has taken place, it can be overwhelming.  There has been struggle, loss, a steep learning curve, and so much that can create a sense of anxiety.  But at the same time, there has been an opportunity for growth and for new learning experiences.  I prefer to focus on the latter, and with a glimmer of hope on the horizon, we continue to move towards the finish line of this marathon.  Thank you for making the most of a difficult year, and for always adapting and excelling in what is presented to you.
