April 5-9

Happy Easter!  hope you’re having/had a restful sunday!

Great Things We Noticed to “Run the Race”

  • This is National Assistant Principals week!  I’d like to thank Lindsay for her dedication and hard work.  She’s extremely organized, efficient, and has been a wonderful support!  Take the week off, Lindsay!
  • 1st graders were asked to use the chat to determine tens and ones, in addition to being asked to whisper a response to their “Zoom neighbor” (an invisible person next to them).  Strong strategies for engagement!
  • While call backs don’t necessarily work online, a new strategy observed was to show students a certain number of fingers in front of the screen.  Students were asked to show the teacher how many fingers she was holding up.  This strategy helped as an attention-getter.
  • Students in a 5th grade classroom were strategically grouped and asked to complete the math problems on the slide below.  With everything thrown at teachers this year, it has been wonderful to see you implementing new instructional resources and strategies.  Thank you for all your hard work!

Race Reminders

  •  Teachers:
    • If your grade level hasn’t finalized your schedule (particularly for online students) once April 19th hits, don’t forget to do so.  We’ll provide time at the PLC meeting this Friday to take care of this and any other necessary tasks.
    • The window for the Universal Behavior Screener opens this week.  We’ll provide you with time at one of our upcoming meetings to complete the screener.

Race Tips/Strategies

  • Google Docs tip: When collaborating on a doc things can get messy.  Rather than sifting through different edits of a doc to find the original draft, teach students to stay organized by naming specific versions of a doc. Go to version history and click on the three dots on the right of the version you want to name. From there, you can also make a copy of that version, which is helpful for sharing the “before” and “after” of work. You can even create notifications to be alerted when changes are made.

Esorouchophobia

Fear of underwear

What in the world does esorouchophobia have to do with our current situation?  I’ve used this analogy before (I think I even used the same quote below), but We are entering into yet another season of change.  This past year has required a considerable amount of adjustment on your part.  But as we plan for a return to in-person learning, my hope is that we would press into this time without a fear of yet another moment of change.  So let’s fight against esorouchophobia.  Change can be good, just like changing your underwear is a good thing.
