Great Things We Noticed to “Run the Race”

  • While visiting classrooms last week, we noticed a number of adjustments being made to the reality of in-person learning.  In a 3rd grade class, students were practicing their multiplication facts through a socially-distanced game that required them to kick a ball to one another to answer the question.  Students in a 6th grade class were partnered and asked to respond to a prompt in response to a text they were reading.  1st graders were engaged in dictation practice that allowed the teacher to actually see what they were writing.  Kindergarteners were writing multiple sentences that offered opportunities for immediate feedback.  All in all, it was wonderful to see students back on campus and to have a much stronger ability to connect with and support students.  Thank you, teachers!!

Race Reminders

  • Teachers:
    • The report card window opens on Tuesday.  Really?!!
    • The funny thing about welcoming students back on campus is that it also coincides with the end of the year.  Below you will find a modified closing school calendar.

    • When it comes to completing your cumulative records, expect an email from CWA in the coming week or two.  You will have to enter information in Q like you did last year, with student attendance being the only item that requires hand entry.  Frances and Yesenia updated all the CUMs last month, which means you will not need to put items in order; everything inside does not require any movement on your part.

Race Tips/Strategies

  • This one won’t have much day-to-day usefulness, but the site allows you to upload a video, remove its background, and replace it with a different background – all without the need for a green screen.

Unscreen

I look at these last four weeks of school as the stretch run of our marathon.   An article I found online described it as this: “…throngs of runners are moving in unison toward the finish.  You all are in it together–whether the others know it or not.”

4 weeks.  Together.
